Guide of Life on Campus
Medical and Health Care Service
The University provides a Health Care Centre on the campus. In downtown of Kunming City, students have more options to seek medical or health care services in more comprehensive hospitals, such as the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University and the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of KMU. The following is a list of contact means of some of the hospitals. Please be noted that the costs of medication or health care are at the students’ own expenses.

Library Facilities
International students have access to the University Library resources by using their E-Card”.
Our library staffs are willing to provide assistance to students who have any problems in borrowing books or using the library facilities.
Generally the borrowed books can be kept for up to One month. The books due to return can be renewed at the reception of library before the due date. Fines are charged for delaying to return books.
Students must return all borrowed books before leaving the university upon graduation.
Borrowing Books
At the entrance of the library, students need to swipe their E-card to enter it.
▲Food or other personal belongings have to be kept in the library locker. Please read the instructions on how to use the lockers and collect your personal belongings before 21:00 every day.
▲Books are borrowed from the Circulation Desk, located at the lobby of the first floor. Students are prohibited to use others’ E- Card to borrow books.
▲Students should leave through library exit, where books borrowed from the library will be monitored. In case of any alarm from the monitor, students should cooperate with the library staffs for book checks.
▲Students are asked to take good care of books. It is not allowed to scribble on them or do any damage to them. If books are lost, students should compensate for the lost books according to the relevant rules.

Safety
Students need to take care of your personal certificates, important documents, cards and cash. On campus or in the downtown of Kunming, you can carry the University Card with you in order to prove your identity when needed. Please remember to switch off electricity and water, and keep the door locked when leaving.
When travelling, obey the traffic rules and pay attention to the safety.
In the event of an emergency, remember to call for help. Meanwhile, please report to the staff of International Education School, who will give your assistance.

Living Facilities
Students could dine in Indian cafeteria of International Education School, or other three student canteens. On campus, supermarkets, post office, book stores, laundry, optical shops and photo shops are available to satisfy most of the students’ demands. 24-hour ATM machines are also available in Bozhi Garden.
Post Office
The on-campus post office is located in the Building 3 of Bozhi Garden. Students are able to send regular mails, registered mails, air mails, or express mails.

Internet Service
Internet service is available in every room of dormitory. Students should apply to International Education School to gain access, and pay required internet fee.
Currency and Bank
The only currency accepted in China is Renminbi (RMB). Renminbi can be measured in Yuan, Jiao and Fen. Banknotes include 100 Yuan, 50 Yuan, 20 Yuan, 10 Yuan, 5 Yuan, 2 Yuan, 1 Yuan, 5 Jiao (= 0.5 Yuan), 2 Jiao (=0.2 Yuan), 1 Jiao (=0.1 Yuan), 5 Fen (=0.05 Yuan), 2 Fen (=0.02 Yuan), and 1 Fen (=0.01 Yuan). Coins include 1 Yuan, 5 Jiao, 1 Jiao, 5 Fen, 2 Fen and 1 Fen.
On the campus, you can find 24-hour ATM of Construction Bank, Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
Currency Exchange
Most of foreign currencies, including GBP, HKD, USD, EUR, JPY, CAD, and AUD, can be exchanged to RMB.
Bank of China, 50 meters eastern side of North Gate of Kunming Medical University (Renmin West Road Campus), can exchange currency and provide account service for international students. Students must not exchange with peddlers on the street to avoid to be cheated. Students have to take their passport or residence permit to exchange money or open accounts. Bank of China also accepts direct deposit of 7 kinds of foreign currencies (GBP, HKD, USD, EUR, JPY, CAD, and AUD).

Railway Tickets and Flight Ticket
Railway tickets can be bought at the Kunming Station or booking agencies in the downtown.
Flight tickets can be purchased from Kunming Changshui International Airport or contact the ticket agencies to make a reservation.
Transportation
Students can take Number One Line Subway to travel from Chenggong campus to Kunming downtown. Students need to keep personal certificates and proberty carefully when travelling. Please take taxi with licence instead of illeagle taxi which no licence.
Taxi service is available 24 hours in Kunming.
Holidays
International students will have holiday as the Chinese students on the days of Chinese festivals or other statutory holidays. However, students can not have holidays on the festivals of their home country.
The University calendar has marked the holidays for students. Before any holiday, students will be notified by International Education School.
Except for summer and winter holidays, other statutory holidays celebrated in China include: New Year, Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Labors’ Day, National Day, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Qingming Day (Tomb Sweeping Day).
Extracurricular Curriculum Activities Students Associations
Sport and recreation services are available on the campus include football, basketball, volleyball, tennis. Gym and table tennis are also available at the student recreation centre. Students can always participate in those activities according to their interests. Please be noted that during the activity, students should not disturb others or damage the facilities of sports and recreation.
International Education School will sometimes also organize different activities. International students will be informed about the recent activities and are encouraged to participate in.
In addition, there are many other student associations in the University. Every September, all the student associations will recruit new members. Students could find more information on the associations through their posts. International students are encouraged to join in any student associations according to their interests.
Travelling in China
International students can travel around China in their spare time, either weekends, or summer and winter holidays, or other statutory holidays. Leave for travelling during the classes will not be permitted.
Please take the passport with you and take care of your personal belongings during your travel.
